Survey to inform COVID19 Decisions for Wellington Hockey

Wellington Hockey have asked that clubs/school members complete a survey in relation to the type of competition and programmes that should be offered for the remainder of 2020. It is vital to have stakeholders’ views while the lockdown is still in place as this will allow planning to start and ensure hockey can hit the ground running when permitted to start playing again.

Please fill out the survey by this weekend Sunday 3 May it should take no more than 3-5 minutes to complete and your responses will be kept completely confidential.

HCJH COVID-19 Response

Hockey NZ have sent out a notification halting all hockey activity from 19 March to 2 May 2020. In line with this Wellington Hockey Association CEO Lisa Jones has advised that there will be no training, programmes, trials or any other hockey related activity until 2 May 2020 or unless advised further.

At this stage it appears that the Wellington Hockey Association will still run a hockey season, but it may be shorter with a late start. Please continue to register your children using the registration form

We are expecting a further update from Wellington Hockey CEO on 20 March 2020

U13 Development Programme

About the Programme

The U13 Development Programme has been running for a number of years. The programme enables Wellington Hockey to develop a significant number of players and umpires prior to the representative season in line with our development mantra “Never Ending Improvement”.

In 2019 Wellington Hockey will continue with the changes based on community feedback from last year to improve the organisation and delivery of this programme and offer the programme to further individuals.

·         The programme in 2019 will be coached by small sticks competition coaches, assisted by Capital representative players and overseen by Capital & Wellington Hockey staff.

·         The programme will be run in term 2;

·         A self-nomination process to streamline administration and communication.

·         The programme will consist of 2 weekly sessions (2 hours) at a centralised venue (NHS)

·         A back up day is reserved if necessary for 9th June

The following should be used as guidelines when players are nominating themselves for the U13 Development programme. It’s important for individuals to recognize that although the U13 Development programme is a development programme there are constraints on the amount of people that can be catered for. If the programme is oversubscribed club and school coaches will be consulted to reduce the numbers.

Players that possess the following attributes should nominate themselves for the U13 program;

·         Be U13 as of 1st January 2019 and be in year 7 or 8

·         Be available to participate in the U13 Representative programme in Term 3.

·         Potential to represent Wellington Hockey in the next two years

·         High level of coachability

·         Versatility in a range of positions

·         Willingness to learn

·         Team Player

·         Love of hockey

·         Positive attitude

·         Embrace the principles of fair play

·

Please note that to be considered for selection in a Wellington U13 Representative team individuals must take part in the U13 Development Programme. Development Programme. During the programme, independant selectors will be present.

Today was a great day of Hockey!

The Y3/4 Tuis edged out Toroa at Newlands today winning the game with 5 goals to 4. Everyone had lots of fun and played really well!

The Y5/6 game score did not reflect all of the great hockey that was played and it was the first game of the season for the Phoenix and they played really well. The Dragons took out the top spot with 9 goals to 1. Lots of beautiful hockey was played with excellent use of the width of the field and excellent passing. Well done to everyone!

Our P1 Y7/8 Keas had a great game and played beautifully. Unfortunately they lost to Northern United 1-2, but it was a massive improvement on last week’s game.

The P2 Boys teams the Dolphins and the Orcas faced off against each other. The game was evenly matched, but the Orcas came out on top with 3 goals to 1.

All in all a great weekend of Hockey! There is lots to learn from and everyone is looking forward to doing it all again next week!!!
